How to Use Christmas to Launch a Successful Business

Posted on 26. Dec, 2007 by in Business Advice

Christmas is over, the wrapping paper is all over the floor, and the faint smell of turkey still lingers around the home. For many of us, Christmas is a time for family and friends, for others it is all about the gifts, but for entrepreneurs, Christmas is also a superb period for finding new and exciting niches.

Here are three ways to find a niche for a website or business during the Christmas and New Year period and launch a successful business:

1 – New toys -

So your wife has bought you a flying UFO that is remote controlled, and your brother has bought you a piano that rolls up and fits in your pocket. As gifts, they may not be the best, but as new niche ideas, they could make you a fortune in 2008.

Both of the above gifts actually exist, and I am sure that it wouldn’t be too difficult to create a site dedicated to each. Then, try some PPC advertising with Google Adwords, build some links, and bam, you have a Christmas inspired business.

2 – Listen and Learn -

Christmas is a time when members of your family and certain friends share a drink with you, people who you would nor normally see on a regular basis. Listen to what they have to say, listen to their stories, what excites them, what are they looking forward to, what would they like to see more of. This is free market research. So instead of letting people bore you over the holidays, simply secretly use them as market research… but remember, don’t forget to thank them once you make your first million. ;-)

3 – Cash in on the New Year -

The New Year is a funny old thing. Do you remember at school when you were given a new text book to write in? Do you remember how during the first 2 or 3 pages you always tried to write as neat as possible, but by page 5 it was back to your usual mess? This is how New Year works, we see it as a fresh start, a chance to start again, to wipe the slate clean. But by February, we are always back to our usual habits.

So how can you cash in on this?

Well, you can use the Google Trends feature and look at things that are likely to be part of New Year plans: Gym membership, health products, no smoking aids etc… ask your family and friends what their New Years resolution is, and build sites around those. You could make big money during the New Year and early January.

For entrepreneurs, Christmas is a gold mine in many ways. Use these tips to your advantage, and kick start 2008 with a bang.

Happy New Year from the team at Retired at 21.
