How to Get .edu Backlinks
Posted on 06. Nov, 2007 by DeanHunt in SEO
We all know that .edu backlinks can provide and ranking power. But like most good things in life, they are not easy to obtain.
There is however a trick to help you get .edu backlinks with ease.
Simply type the following into Google:
site:.edu inurl:blog “post a comment†-â€you must be logged in†-â€comment posting closed†-â€comment closed†“[insert your keyword here]â€
Add your chosen keyword, login, and post a relevant and useful comment.
With any luck, your comment will be accepted and hey presto, you have a .edu backlink.

Yeah – I once paid good money for this wheeze – it’s great in theory but I found that the sites accepting my posts were already spam bins (with consequently little or no link value). Maybe I should have refined the search and written better posts.
I’m told that Google does give extra weight to .edu TLDs but links from spam bins won’t do you any good.
Also be sure to check for NO FOLLOW, there’s no SEO value in posting to a NO-FOLLOW site.
BTW I’ve got a PHP script to search by keyword for blogs without NO-FOLLOW. It needs a server to execute via your browser but installation is just a copy and paste via FTP.
I’ll trade for blog posts linking to my sites. How many literate, relevant posts is such a script worth to you?
