Dalai Lama vs Matt Cutts

Posted on 28. Mar, 2007 by in Business Advice

The Dalai Lama is one of the worlds most respected spiritual leaders, his words and advice are treated as life advice by millions of people. But my life is online, so maybe I should look for an Internet leader?

The obvious choice was Matt Cutts from Google. But who gives the better advice between Dalai Lama and Matt Cutts?

I have done a scientific experiment with NASA like precision. What I have done is taken the most widely known pieces of advice from the Dalai Lama, then I used the Matt Cutts.com site search feature to look for similar advice from the Google engineer/cult leader.

Dalai Lama Matt Cutts

Dalai Lama: Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
Matt Cutts: I urge folks to spend more time looking for ways to make a compelling site.

Dalai Lama: When you lose, don’t lose the lesson
Matt Cutts: Google takes a hard stance on cloaking. Don’t do it for any reason.

Dalai Lama: Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
Matt Cutts: If you’re going to hide text, doing “#EEEEEE” instead of solid white isn’t really an improvement

Dalai Lama: Don’t let a little dispute injure a great relationship.
Matt Cutts: Include in your Reinclusion request something that reassures Google that you will sin no more.

Dalai Lama: Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.
Matt Cutts: Translated versions of content are not considered duplicate.

Dalai Lama: Share your knowledge. It is a way to achieve immortality
Matt Cutts: Make your site fully crawlable

So which one of the two would you rather want to buy a used car from? ;-)

“something that reassures Google that you will sin no more” – missed that one but it sure fits in snug with all the bogus religious language Google’s been throwing around for years. So your comparison is really anything but off the mark.

Also, let’s not forget that Matt Cutts and his company are working hand in hand with those who will haul in the supporters of the Dalai Lama (e.g. Tibetan dissidents) whenever they can to subject them to imprisonment, torture and worse…

“it sure fits in snug with all the bogus religious language Google’s been throwing around for years”

fantomaster, that’s not a quote from me. It looks like Eric Enge made up that phrase while humorously paraphrasing a video I did. Here’s the video:
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-51167291563232332
Here’s the transcript of the video:
    http://www.viperchill.com/articles/matt-cutts-reinclusion-requests.php
    (note: no religious language there)

And here’s Eric Enge’s humorous summary of the videos:

So Eric’s post created that phrase–I never said it. Good to know that you jump straight to a very negative conclusion instead of enjoying a humorous post though.

Dean Hunt, I thought your post was funny. Don’t let fantomaster get you down. :)
