Posted on 03. Dec, 2007 by DeanHunt in Online Marketing
StumbleUpon has had a whopping 4 million downloads, and to celebrate we have a world exclusive interview with the top 30 users of Stumbleupon.com
Today we are speaking with Stumbleupon top user: BurkinaLoveFaso

How long have you been an active user of StumbleUpon?
Since Dec 25th 2005
What makes you use StumbleUpon more than the other social sites such as Digg, Del.icio.us etc…?
To find a greater amount of information related to selected interests.
I am also interested in finding out about new things i may of never searched for myself.
If you could make one positive change to the current Stumbleupon platform, what would it be?
If i select the old format rather than the beta for my pages, I would like that format to show for others viewing my blog from outside the Stumbleupon network. I’ve viewed my pages from internet cafes and the only format shown is the beta which my blog is not designed for (appearance wise).
What don’t you like about the current StumbleUpon platform?
I prefer the simplicity of the old platform. The new platform has too many options and can be confusing.
What are the main factors you look for in content that you feel is worthtumbling?
Current, unusual, humorous.
Is there anything that puts you off stumbling an article?
There is a lot of tension towards “anti-zionism” websites and many people attack these sorts of pages as being “antisemitic” which they ARE NOT. I would stumble more of these pages but when i do i tend to get harassed by people in the network.
What sort of topics interest you the most?
I focus primarily on videos. I think i have blogged over 2000 videos so far, many of which are lengthy 1 – 2 hour documentaries. Photos of domestic pets is another favorite of mine.
What advice would you give to a brand new user of Stumbleupon?
Add as many interesting users as you can in order to receive the maximum amount of wide-ranging stumbles. Then use these stumbles as a doorway into other sites and links. Build up your bookmarks with these useful sites and then focus on stumbling original content that has not yet been submitted.
Do you ever get thanked by the site owners after you stumble their content?
Yes! I have received many personal emails from site owners thanking me.
Has anyone ever tried to bribe you into stumbling their content?
No.
Do you own a website? And if so, what have been your biggest StumbleUpon successes from your site?
I own 2 websites. The first is called “True Stories Video Blog” which is purely video content of a conspiratorial nature: http://www.truestoriesvideoblog.info/
The second is my personal art and music homepage: http://www.burkinalovefaso.net/
I have had more success with the video site via Stumbleupon.com
What are your thoughts on stumbling your own content?
Shameless self-promotion.
What are your thoughts on Linkbait and people creating content with the sole aim of getting traffic from sites like Stumbleupon?
I don’t know enough about Linkbait to comment.
Are you influenced by factors like authority of the website, design of the website etc? And if so, what sort of things do you specifically look for?
I prefer websites that are visually appealing but some of the most useful websites have been designed poorly so i don’t take the design too seriously. It’s a bonus when both are looked after well.
Why do you feel you are in the top 30 most powerful users of StumbleUpon?
I guess cats & conspiracies are popular these days …haha!
What advice would you give to anyone who wanted to get into the top 30?
Express your uniqueness. Focus on stumbling unchartered territory, bringing a new dimension to the community.
