8 Steps to Networking Like a Celebrity

Posted on 14. Feb, 2008 by in Business Advice

If you want to succeed in business then you need to network like a celebrity. But not all of us can go to star studded events full of influencial people. Below are 8 tips to help you on your way to becoming a networking celeb.

1 – Always, and I repeat always, have 5 business cards in your wallet or purse at any time… regardless of where you are going. You never know who you might meet, so be prepared or prepare to fail.

2 – Setup a free google account and use Google alerts for your name, your companies name and your websites name. Whenever anyone discusses you, use that as a reason to contact them.

3 – Interview at least one person per month from your industry. Ideally you want to interview the biggest names, but don’t be afraid of working your way up the ladder.

4 – Have a kick ass signature in your emails. Don’t make it too long, but make it memorable and include a call to action.

5 – Ensure you use at least one of the major social networks (Facebook, LinkedIN etc).

6 – Every time you meet someone new, both offline and online, look for the “Common Point of Interest” between the two of you. This will make you rememberable, and it creates rapport and opportunity.

7 – If you do not own www.yourfullname.com then get it before someone else does. It won’t cost much, and people will often search your name to learn more about you.

8 – Be remarkable – Aim to be remembered. Use creativity in your emails etc to ensure that people never forget your name.

Reading these, especially second point – i realized that I use google alerts for monitoring others activity but not mine :D

Maybe you could blog about, how to make point 6 and 8 happen?! I’m sure, that there are many out there who are really interested expending these.
