7 reasons the number 7 is 7th heaven

Posted on 02. Aug, 2007 by in Online Marketing

Did you know the writing your website content in list format will vastly increases your chances of getting huge success on social media sites like Digg.com? Did you also know that lists with 7 items are regarded as the most successful?

Many people have wondered why this is the case. So today I am going to look at 7 more reasons why the number 7 is so powerful:

1) There are 7 days in a week – If there were only 5 then when would I get time to play the Xbox?

2) There are 7 colours in a rainbow - but more importantly, there are 7 dwarfs (Dopey, Sneezy, Bashful, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy and Doc)

3) Atomic Power – The atomic number 7 – nitrogen – is a constituent of all living tissues

4) Religion and Mystical – 7 is a mystical number, the number of perfection. Around the world, in all religions and cultures, the number 7 frequently appears within myths and legends and as a symbol of luck or power.
In Christian lore there were 7 days of creation, there were 7 gifts of the Holy Ghost, Christ spoke 7 times on the cross, there were 7 sorrows of Mary, and 7 joys of Mary, there are 7 seals in the book of revelations, The Catholic church has 7 sacraments

5) It is a sin – We all like to sin from time to time, so where would we be without our 7 friends: (7 deadly sins – pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed and sloth)

6) It is wonder-full – The 7 wonders of the world inspire awe in people who travel the globe to see them

7) It is the amount of numbers in this list ;-)

So there we have conclusive proof that the number 7 is the King Kong of the numbers world. So next time you are making a list for your web content, overlook the number 7 at your peril.

Very cool! I had never thought of all the ways that 7 is very good — and one more thing — 7 is very good (or bad) on the craps table, depending upon when it is thrown!

Also, our world has been divided into 7 Continents:

    1. North America
    2. South America
    3. Europe
    4. Asia
    5. Africa
    6. Australia
    7. Antarctica

I’ve heard there are also 7 seas, but I can’t name them offhand :)

Interesting no doubt, this list might get longer that you would think.

    How about:
    7 spots on a ladybug
    7 sacraments in Catholic church
    7 virtues/ 7 deadly sins
7 sorrows of the virgin Mary
7 steps buddha took when he was born
    7 th day of rest
7 visible planets to the naked eye
    7 archangels
    7 chakras
    7 points on a sheriff’s star
    7 Seas

When rolling two standard six-sided dice, seven is the number most likely to occur. It is the sum of any two opposite sides on a standard six-sided die

The reason for 7 being a lucky number symbolically (such as in the Bible) is because it represents the union of man and woman, since the number for women is 4 and the number for men is 3.

    Opps that’s more than 7.

The seven seas are taken from ancient writings used to represent seven of 9 seas. I forgot there names but it was used in sinbad the sailor. I dunno about the seven sorrows of mary or her joys, I never heard that in the Bible, but seven is the number of completion.

    4.the Visit of the Magi,
5.the Finding of Jesus in the Temple of Jerusalem,
    6.the Resurrection of Christ,
7.and The Assumption of Mary into Heaven.

    Sorrows:
    1.the Prophecy of Simeon,
    2.the Flight into Egypt,
3.the Three Day Loss of the Christ Child in the 4.Temple of Jerusalem, the Carrying of the Cross,
    5.the Crucifixion of Christ,
    6.the Pieta,
7.the Closing of the Holy Sepulchre.

I recently read a study which addressed the number 7 and article writing. The results were quite amazing. The fact was that articles listing: (7reasons, or secrets, or whatever)were downloaded much more often than those listing 10, 12,4 or 5. Amazing what the power of 7 has.

All the gurus also say people like to buy products that end in 7, right? Certainly worth testing, and sounds less cheesy than pricing at $19.99 … but wait, there’s more!! If you act now, you get this amazing set of Ginzu chopping knives! (Sorry – blast from my TV-overloaded youth.)

Seven’s great for some things, but 10 sure works out better for others:
    - 10 fingers
    - 10 toes
    - Top 10… whatevers
    - 10 Commandments (although maybe 7 would be better in that case? probably not – which would we drop?)
    - Scales of 1 to 10
